Amenities and Services

It is time for a more comprehensive look at amenities and services than has been done in the past.  The ASTF seeks to determine what one would expect to find in a top notch community, what is already available on Kiawah, what association members would like to have available, and the various costs and financial ramifications.

For the formal charge to this task force, see Business Plan Goal #9 (PDF).

Members with questions or suggestions regarding the Amenities and Services (ASTF) task force and its work should contact the task force by email at astf@kica.us.

ASTF chair Jim Williams has appointed four sub-committees to begin the work of the task force:

  • Demographics and financial condition: understand the demographics of the present community, the financial condition of the association, and the impact of potential buildout on the community and finances.
  • Current state assessment: conduct a thorough review of existing KICA programs, facilities and services and the physical capacity of the association.
  • Communications and member input: determine multiple ways to keep members informed about the task force’s work and how to gather input from KICA members. As important information about the work of the ASTF becomes available, the Communications Subcommittee will ensure it reaches members through as many means as possible, including written information and possibly video presentations on the web site; written publications such as Digestand local publications; electronic methods, including news flashes, twitter and Facebook; the list serve; and web-based discussion forums. The ASTF will use limited surveys, probably electronic, to ascertain the opinions and hopes of members, and also welcomes comments by email.
  • Comparisons: survey other high-end resort communities to learn what they do and don’t offer and why, and how they finance their programs and services. The Comparison Subcommittee is currently investigating resort and other planned communities around the U.S.  The Subcommittee has refined a list of questions and has apportioned more than a dozen communities among Subcommittee members.  Members are conducting their interviews and have met as a group with representatives from Seabrook.  At points in the process, the Subcommittee will share results with the Kiawah community.  This subcommittee has the following assignment: (1) To develop a standard list of questions to ask targeted communities in order to learn about their amenities and services, including descriptions, usage, costs, methods for assessing community support for initiatives, and financing (e.g. fees, assessments). (2) To develop a list of communities we want to study, including Seabrook Island. (3) To conduct interviews and collate results.
